Praying for Personal Safety

The world has become a scarier place as the years go by. The daily news programs talk mostly about crimes and terrorism – all those crimes that people commit against one another. We no longer feel safe. Even in our own neighbourhood, we can’t really trust the people around us. We have become paranoid and untrusting.

Bad things will happen and people will harass us for following Jesus Christ, but we still have to love them. That’s what Jesus Himself says about loving our neighbour, even our enemies, that we should still pray for them and bless them. However, we should not deliberately put ourselves in situations that will harm us. We can take risks but we should be wise about them.

It’s important that we have to pray to God to give us wisdom and spiritual discernment in any situation that we are in and any circumstance that we may face daily.

Pray for discretion and understanding. (Proverbs 2:11)

“Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you.”

Ask God for strength and courage. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

Pray for wisdom and protection. (Proverbs 4:6)

“Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you.”

Pray for discernment and safety when wicked people try to manipulate you or lead you to danger. (Psalm 140:4)

“Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
Preserve me from violent men,
Who have purposed to make my steps stumble.”

Ask God for refuge from violent people (2 Samuel 22:3)

“The God of my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn[a] of my salvation,
My stronghold and my refuge;
My Savior, You save me from violence.”

Ask God for help and support during hard times. (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)

“We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.”

Pray for strength and protection from the powers of evil (2 Thessalonians 3:3)

“But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.”

Ask God for help to lead you the way out from temptation. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

Ask God to help you praise Him whilst seeking refuge in Him. (Psalm 5:11)

“But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name
Be joyful in You.”

Ask God to be your Shepherd. (Psalm 23)
